Cost to Move an Electrical Panel

What relocating a breaker box costs and why it is often more than replacing it in place.

Typical prices

Forbes Home and Bob Vila put moving an electrical panel at $1,000 to $3,000. HomeGuide and Fixr go up to $4,000, Angi gives $1,500 to $4,000, and This Old House $800 to $3,000. Moving a panel to the outside of the house runs $1,500 to $2,500 (HomeAdvisor, Bob Vila).

Why moving costs more

Every circuit has to be extended or re-run to the new location, and the service cable and meter may need to move too. The farther the move, the more wire and wall repair. Combining a move with a needed replacement is usually cheaper than doing them separately.

Use the estimate above as your yardstick. A fair bid should list the panel, permit and any meter or service work separately.
